Ibragim Arsanov - Public Chamber of the Chechen Republic, Chechen Republic, Russia
Ibragim is a member of the Public Chamber of the Chechen Republic, a volunteer institution with 25 members nominated by the President of Chechnya and 25 delegates from NGOs. The Chamber works to defend the interests of the general public against unfavourable legislative reform and, in particular, seeks to represent the views of disadvantaged communities. These communities are from marginalised areas who have limited public access to welfare programmes. The Chamber is an independent body, and members are not allowed to be part of any government structure or political party. Ibragim is Head of the working group on ‘Cooperation with Community and International NGO’s’. He is responsible for liaising with over 40 international organisations based in the North Caucasus to deliver humanitarian aid and contribute to post-conflict rehabilitation. He organises seminars and discussions with NGOs to plan and implement outreach programmes which lead to the provision of food, shelter, healthcare and schools. These initiatives are followed up with joint visits to beneficiaries to ensure fairness of implementation. His recent work with the International Rescue Committee has brought success to the Grozny region with a rebuilding programme of private homes.
